The Faculty's history dates back to 1881, when the city of Lviv saw the opening of the third in Poland, next to that in Vilnus and Warsaw, veterinary school which gained the status of the Academy in 1897 and had excellent reputation. The outbreak of World War II followed by annexation of the eastern outskirts of Poland by the Soviet Army, German occupation and the political consequences of warfare had their tragic result in separating Lviv from Poland. The Ministers of Agriculture and of Science and Higher Education have appointed professors from the Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences to the scientific councils of two institutes. Prof. Zdzisław Kiełbowicz will serve another term on the Scientific Council of the National Veterinary Institute, while Prof. Andrzej Zachwieja joins the Scientific Council of the Institute of Animal Husbandry. Prof. Mariusz Korczyński is also a member of the IZ's Scientific Council.

They have known each other since high school. Together they graduated from food technology and nutrition. They now work in one team as doctoral students at the Faculty of Biotechnology and Food Sciences under the supervision of Prof. Aneta Wojdyło. They go on internships together, where they learn new research methods and learn to work in an international environment.
