Since 1995, the World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought has been celebrated on 17 June. The General Assembly of the United Nations established it in order to draw the attention of both decision-makers and ordinary people to this phenomenon, the effects of which are being felt by humanity ever more often and ever more intensely.

For the second time we have awarded diplomas and medals to the best beers taking part in the Good Beer Academy competition. Jury was headed by Rafał Kowalczyk, an international judge who emphasized a high standard of the competition where over 80 beers were evaluated.

Scientists from the UPWr Institute of Geodesy and Geoinformatics carried out precise measurements of the Tatra Mountain peaks. As a result, many atlases and textbooks will have to be revised. Świnica turned out to be one meter higher, the Skrajny Granat on Orla Perć by three meters, and the border post in Rysy stands at 2500 m above sea level.

The year 2023 has been declared the Year of Copernicus to mark the 550th anniversary of the astronomer's birth. So in celebration of him, Prof. Krzysztof Sośnica talks about the significance of the Copernican breakthrough, the search for beauty in science, space missions and the participation of UPWr scientists in the construction of a base on the Moon.
