The World Food Day, celebrated on October 16th, is supposed to remind decision-makers and the general public that mankind has struggled with hunger for centuries. Does the Nobel Peace Prize awarded to the United Nations World Food Program prove that we have coped with this challenge?

Nearly PLN 3 million will go to UPWr scientists as part of the National Centre for Research and Development's LIDER programme. Funding has been awarded to: Dr. Katarzyna Kornicka-Garbowska, who will create a system for producing a regenerative serum for veterinary medicine and biotechnology, and Dr. Ewa Szczepańska for developing biotechnological production of vanillin using by-products from the agri-food industry.

Professor Wojciech Niżański, chairman of the Discipline Council for Veterinary Science: – We are looking for the best candidates for our Doctoral School, but we are also "presenting" ourselves as supervisors. Young people are smart, and are looking for good topics, great laboratories and interesting projects. And an even better supervisor and co-supervisor from a foreign research centre.

As many as 11 research projects by scientists from the UPWr have received funding from the National Science Centre in the PRELUDIUM 20 competition, and seven in OPUS 21. And this is not a full list of our successes in recent competitions by the National Science Centre. Among others, we were also awarded during the last editions of TANGO, BEETHOVEN and MINIATURE 5.

During the kick-off meeting, representatives of nine partnering universities of the EU GREEN consortium launched a project to build and develop joint activities within the alliance. Universities from Ukraine were invited to cooperate – on the initiative of UPWr, representatives of ten institutions, including those from Kiev and Lviv, came to Cáceres.
