On December 8-10, 2021, a delegation from our Institute represented by the Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Krzysztof Lejcuś, Head of the Water Laboratory Maciej Gruszczyński, PhD Eng. and Radosław Stodolak, PhD Eng. made a research visit to befriended units in the Czech Republic and Germany. The visit was associated with the project "Increasing international cooperation by UPWr employees in the field of hydrodynamic modeling."

Thanks to the invitation of Prof. Vaclav Matousek and Milan Zukal, PhD, our employees got acquainted with the functioning and equipment of the water laboratory at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, of the Czech Technical University in Prague. It should be emphasized that it is currently the largest unit of this type in the Czech Republic.

A day later, courtesy of Konrad Thurmer, PhD Eng. and Magdalena Klich, PhD, our delegation visited the hydraulic laboratory in Schleusingen, which is part of the Institut für Wasserwirtschaft, Siedlungswasserbau und Ökologie (Institute of Water Management, Sanitary Engineering and Ecology).

The research visit resulted in becoming familiar with the activities of hydrodynamic modeling laboratories and learning about the latest research methods. The employees exchanged their experiences regarding the methodology and main problems accompanying physical modeling of hydraulic structures and open channels. Our delegation got acquainted with the most modern research and measurement equipment of the visited laboratories. Talks regarding scientific exchange and conducting a joint training cycle were initiated.

This visit is an important part of preparing the Institute of Environmental Engineering for a new challenge, that is, for the long-awaited renovation of the Prof. Julian Wołoszyn Water Laboratory. This visit will facilitate the preparation of an optimal renovation plan and laboratory equipment. We hope that our laboratory will soon enable research at the highest scientific level nationwide and beyond. At the same time, we will expand the possibilities of its use for educational purposes and for carrying out commissioned work.
