For the next year, Dr. M. Domańska will conduct research in a project entitled “Treated wastewater as a source of information on microorganisms involved in the transformation of nitrogen compounds.” The research work will concern the identification of microorganisms responsible for the transformation of nitrogen compounds in wastewater, at various stages of treatment using modern molecular biology tools.
The result of the project will be the selection of nitrifying bacteria carried into water receivers along with treated wastewater, and an indication of which groups of microorganisms involved in the transformation of nitrogen compounds dominate in activated sludge and which in the outflow, and whether this is a seasonal phenomenon.
Dr. M. Domańska is a specialist in water and wastewater technology, and specializes in fluorescent methods of staining microorganisms.
